Tri Like A Girl Clinic – Thursday Evening 6:30PM

We have joined up with Trisition Area to bring you an excellent Tri Clinic this Thursday evening, June 4th.  We’ll be meeting between  6:30 & 6:45pm.  The clinic will begin at 7pm.  This is a free clinic.

Trisition Area   -   2602 NW Loop 1604, San Antonio Texas 78248 at the southwest corner of Bitter & 1604  (not bitters & 281)

Bob Byard, a local triathlon coach, will be speaking at the clinic.  He has some really great information to share with us about tri’s.  We’re very excited to have this level of expertise available to us.  This clinic is for everyone.  If you are already participating in Tri’s, if you have wanted to get started but didn’t know how or if you’d like to learn more to see if you’d be interested.  I want all of you to join us, if you are able.  It will certainly be worth your time.

Please either contact us through the blogsite or by email & let us know if you can join us.  Tri Like A Girl will be providing snacks & drinks for everyone.  We also would like a headcount for the packets.

This is exciting – We will see everyone there!!!

  1. It wouldn’t be any fun if we couldn’t whine :)

I’ll be there…..after I ride this weekend. Going to bed, see you tomorrow!

  2. Bob Byard – Thank you so much for your knowledge. Thanks, Trisition Area for hosting our location. Thanks Tri Like A Girl for the excellent & healthy food. (ha! I’m thanking myself) This was a truly excellent clinic.

Bob covered what a triathlon is, why people enjoy doing them. He spoke about the importance of mental attitide, successful goal setting and effective training. He stressed the adage “If you think you can’t do it, you won’t”.

Extra emphasis was given to the importance of a true ‘rest day’ for the overall success of your training. Bob told us to look at needing 1 day a week for training in each discipline, at least. For example, run on Monday, bike on Wednesday, swim on Friday. To prepare for a sprint, or short tri, that is the minimum training you need.

We learned the different distances for the different endurance categories.

Sprint is usually 400-750 meter swim, 12.4 mile bike, & 5K run.
Olympic is 1500 meter swim (.93 mi.), 24.8 mile bike, & 10K run.
    Half-Ironman is 1.9K swim (1.2 mi), 56 mile bike, & 21K run.
    Ironman is 3.8K swim (2.4 mi), 112 mile bike, & 42K (26.2 mi) run.

Bob passed along keys to success; Start small & build. Know your strengths & weaknesses. Prioritizing your life & training. Strength-training & stretches for increased performance.

He finished up by explaining to us that completing a Traithlon is a life-changing experience. Then we had an opportunity to ask all those questions running through our heads. Bob is a wealth of good knowledge & wisdom.

So, we came, we learned, we are better for it. Now we just need to find a Sprint to train for. Any ideas????
